Large-scale project of INGENIUM

In 2020, INGENIUM successfully implemented a large-scale project of refrigeration supply system for the Lenta retail network distribution center at the PNK Valishchevo logistic hub in Moscow Region.

The total area of distribution center comprises 70,000 sq. m., and the total refrigeration capacity exceeds 5 MW.

The facility is separated into several storage zones with an ability to maintain temperature regimes ranging from -22°C to +19°C.   

This project integrates all compressors of universal design including piston compressors, helical compressors, and frequency converter driven scroll compressors.

At the first stage of the project implementation, a cooling system was designed, manufactured and installed for storage chambers  and dispatch zones of the distribution center on the area of over 4.5 thousand sq. m.  The system has been designed and installed to supply refrigeration to  94 consumers.

Heat recovery system has been supplied and installed to the ground freezing protection system. Remote- type machinery halls with all enclosed utilities including safety systems, were designed and installed.

Refrigeration capacity  of the distribution center is ensured by 2 refrigeration units based on Danfoss scroll compressors and 5 units based on Bitzer helical compressors: low-temperature cold - 310 kW, medium-temperature cold - 2 MW, and high-temperature cold - 550 kW.

At the second stage, INGENIUM implemented refrigeration supply to food production zone with the area of more than 10,000 sq. m. comprised of 76 refrigerated rooms and 89 refrigeration consumers. 

 At this state involving complicated processes our specialist decided to deploy various schematics of refrigeration system operation; starting with a classical DX schematics to pump feed with intermediate cooling medium.

The most appropriate solutions from the points of view of power economy and operation efficiency were selected for each task.   

Due to the large length of systems, restrictions on the location of the equipment, the large required depth of regulation of refrigeration system performance, as well as a need to comply with safety standards, it was decided to deploy a cooling system for medium-temperature storage chambers (750 kW) and process air conditioning on the basis of chillers, using propylene glycol aqueous solution as a cooling medium.

Refrigeration supply of low-temperature chambers (80 kW) is made on the basis of separate units installed in the ceiling space. Due to the impossibility of installing air condensers on the roof of the building, heat removal from the refrigeration machines is carried out through the plate heat exchangers (condensers) connected to a high-temperature chiller. As a redundancy, the chillers are additionally equipped with air condensers. In case of long process  shutdown of high-temperature chiller, air condensers will ensure the operation of low-temperature units.

To supply refrigeration to the process equipment  in the production area, an outdoors  compressor and condenser unit with direct R 507 A cooling agent boiling was designed and installed. 

As part of the work performed production and installation of compressor and condenser units for ventilation systems of the production area was carried out. Units assembled on the basis of Danfoss  scroll compressors provide a wide smooth range of performance control. Due to the use of compressors with frequency control, the energy consumption of the system is reduced.
